Tomorrow Belongs To No One

The human condition
like marionettes in god's carnival
benefactors of the star goddess
who gave us breath and spirit
some day she will fade
into an ember of
expanding, demonic
crimson reality

Her departure will erase
all history
no more religion
to comfort souls
no more insects
to outlive the scourge
only the master poet
will whisper the prayer
of countless mysteries

Beyond what we are told
the human condition
is a fragile one
proud and intriguing
pathetic and enticing
now is time for celebration
for tomorrow there will be no place
for belonging, for dreaming
in the matrix of all things
now is the experience
to be cherished
