Without Us

The atmosphere is lethal
time is failing now
there never was enough
for the walking poison

Brawling for shadows
as other creatures fade
this world is drowning
and we can't change

Beneath northern ghost light
leaders disappear
nothing left for those to follow
but nature's cruel conviction

We voted with our actions
for this altered state
the sudden shift in climate
that will seal our fate

Thick atmosphere is roiling
time is running down
the earth was not enough
for the walking venom

History is changing
matter rearranging
erasing from the page
our lordly naked apes

And when we are gone
life will go on
without us
